Burswood Station Precinct Review
An
investigation of the potential for and implications of
redevelopment on land around the Burswood Casino and the
Burswood rail station, in particular land in Government ownership. The focus of the study was to generate viable transit oriented development options which could maximise the local and sub regional catchment. Syme Marmion & Co was an instrumental part of the consultant team in the concept formulation, option analysis, feasibility assessment, statutory planning guidance, key stakeholder consultation and preparation of material for Ministerial and media purposes. The preferred option for a medium to high density, mixed use precinct with major tourism attractions, commercial hub and diverse residential development, provided a significant increase in walk on public transport use and facilitated a safer, more attractive and sustainable urban community. The proposal was supported by an improved and interconnected movement network and public realm. The fully costed project required substantial public and private sector investment and Syme Marmion & Co presented a number of viable implementation and funding mechanisms. The project was well received by the Public Transport Authority, Town of Victoria Park, Department for Planning & Infrastructure, the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure and the local Member.
