Perth Arena Business Case

Syme Marmion & Co was engaged by the Department of Housing & Works to prepare the business case for the new 14,000 seat indoor entertainment and sports centre which is to be constructed between the existing privately owned Perth Entertainment Centre and the Mitchell Freeway (now known as Perth Arena). This project required the analysis of multiple operational options and varying structural components, presented in a format consistent with the Department of Treasury & Finance Strategic Asset Framework. There were also a number of issues of conflict over the site between DHW and the East Perth Redevelopment Authority and Syme Marmion & Co was involved in writing Cabinet Submissions on behalf of DHW to resolve some of these issues.

CPTED Policy Guidelines Development

Syme Marmion & Co led and facilitated the stakeholder engagement process which made a major contribution to the preparation of the designing out crime planning guidelines for the Department of Planning and Infrastructure and the Office of Crime Prevention. Karen Hyde and John Syme were the key consultants responsible for:

  • consultation with the joint client reference group to ensure the draft guidelines met the objectives and expectations of the study
  • workshops with key groups including local government and government agencies to establish key issues and to consider the scope, content and format of the draft guidelines
  • a 90-day public comment period to gain the benefit of community input
  • seven public forums in metropolitan and regional centres to explain the proposed content and potential implications of the planning guidelines to key groups including planners, police, insurance representatives, designers and developers from both public and private sectors
  • analysis and advice to government on all community submissions
