We develop strategic frameworks which set a robust and sustainable planning and development process for the long term. This typically involves resolving complex dynamics of government and the private sector, forging partnerships and consolidating a vision, and is informed by rigorous analysis of qualitative and quantitative measures.

Project examples:

  • Scarborough SEAS
  • Mandurah - The Southern City
  • Swan Urban Growth Strategy

Scarborough SEAS

Syme Marmion & Co assisted the creation of a new urban development plan for the Scarborough precinct including the development of economic, environmental and social benefits and a community consultation strategy and its implementation. The project involved research into demographics, tourism and commercial activities. One of the themes of this study was to determine the extent to which Scarborough had a role at the state level in providing an important component of the state’s tourism industry and also as a state level recreational area. The review by Syme Marmion & Co of the then current SEAS development strategy and subsequent redirection led to a fundamental transformation of the project within a relatively short time frame.

The project involved an extended period of project management, working closely and regularly with the Council and its specific sub-committee. Syme Marmion & Co demonstrated sound judgment and discretion during this highly politicised process and enabled an acceptable compromise position to be reached which allowed viable redevelopment to take place whilst taking into account community requirements.

Further information regarding the Scarborough Enviro Area Strategy is available on the City of Stirling website.

Mandurah - The Southern City

Mandurah is in the centre of one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. Syme Marmion & Co is working with the City of Mandurah to develop a strategic framework which will transform it into a major urban area. Key to this is to provide an employment base, particularly for high level skilled and professional employment. The strategic framework therefore includes making sure the planning, urban design and transport system settings are aligned with the strategic framework, and identifying projects and policies which will allow the human capital of the city to grow and prosper over time.

Swan Urban Growth Strategy

The City of Swan commissioned Syme Marmion & Co to develop a framework for managing urban growth within the City, particularly in the urban growth corridor to the north of Midland/Guildford where growth management, acid sulphate soils and the requirement for environmentally sustainable drainage are among the key issues and are a key influence on the long term financial capability of the City.
